Your data

Delete your account.

You can delete your ZALA account at any time, from inside the app or by writing to us. This page explains how, and exactly what happens to your information.

Delete from inside the app

  1. Open the ZALA app and sign in.
  2. Go to Profile → Settings.
  3. Choose Delete account and confirm.

Your account is deleted immediately. You are signed out on every device and cannot sign back in.

Request deletion by email

If you cannot sign in — for example you have lost access to your email address — write to hello@zala.net from any address, tell us the email address on the account, and ask us to delete it.

We will verify that the account is yours before acting, and confirm once it is done. We aim to respond within 30 days.

What is deleted

Deleting your account permanently removes:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, gender, biography and website
  • Your profile photo
  • Your sign-in credentials, passkeys, saved sessions and push notification tokens
  • Your private notes, note folders and gratitude entries
  • Your Bible highlights, notes, reactions and reading positions
  • Your reading plan progress, streaks, badges and watch history
  • Who you follow, and who follows you
  • Your assistant conversations

Your membership of every organisation, group and location is removed at the same time.

What is retained, and why

Two categories of information are kept, with your identity removed so it can no longer be connected to you:

  • Content you shared with your community — posts, comments, prayer requests, testimonies and reactions. These remain visible to your organisation but are no longer attributed to you. If you want specific content removed as well, delete it in the app before deleting your account, or ask us by email.
  • Financial and legal records — giving and payment records, event tickets, subscriptions and records of legal agreements you accepted. We are required to retain these for tax, accounting and audit purposes. They are kept without your personal details attached.

If you lead an organisation

If you are the owner of an organisation on ZALA, you will need to close that organisation, or transfer it, before your own account can be deleted. This protects the other members of your organisation from losing access without warning. Write tohello@zala.net and we will help.
